Wildwood, NJ

Team Connecticut wrapped up it's season at the National Challenge Duals in Wildwood, a 10 match 3 day competition against some of the best teams on the East Coast. Our Connecticut boys wrestled tough, winning 4 matches and placing 3rd (of 8) in the consolation pool, after tying for 5th in the placement pool.

This completes the trio of very tough matches at Tyrant Duals, McDonough Duals, and the National Challenge Duals against the strongest competition out there. 49 wrestlers from all over Connecticut were involved with Team CT this year. In addition to these three duals, there was outstanding wrestling at the wrestle-offs before each match, as every roster spot was decided by wrestle-off before each event.

Team members all received shorts and shirts, and many purchased the team singlets. This out of state experience has helped each wrestler develop, and will serve them well during States and their high school careers. Congratulations to each participant, and special thanks to Coaches Pete DeCarli of Windham, Chris Delzangle of Newington, Jeff Jennings of Danbury, Jason Shaugnhessy of Fairfield, and Ann Kilpatrick and the coaches at Colchester, for encouraging your wrestlers to step up to the next level. Every wrestler learned more about both themselves and the sport, while representing Connecticut. We are proud of each of you, both as wrestlers and fine young men.

Northeast Elite Wrestling's Elementary Team competed at the 2009 SJWA National Challenge Duals in Wildwood NJ. There were 14 teams competing in 2 pools of 7 teams. Northeast Elite Wrestling's Elementary Team placed 4th in the Bull Shark Pool making it to the Championship rounds on Sunday. Northeast Elite Wrestling's Elementary Team finished the Duals with an overall record of 4-5 with several very close lossses.

Team CT did well in the first event of three this year, taking 9th in a
field of 16 at the Tyrant Duals in Wilmington Delaware. After wrestling the
NJ Stars, who finished 2nd overall, Team CT took on another team from NJ,
Phoenix, who finished 5th overall. (This is known as a 'tough pool!' ) Team
CT wrestled some of the best wrestlers in the East 'dog tough', to quote
the NJ Stars coach. After beating Tyrant Grey to secure third place in our
pool, Team CT took on the other third place teams, defeating Tyrant Blue
and the Warhawks soundly to end the day at 3-2 and in 9th place.

Team CT wrestlers who train primarily at Northeast Elite include Alex Starr
(4-1), Joe Rossetti (3-2), Brendan Zotti (2-2), Chris Zotti (2-2), Chris
Elrod (5-0), Will Chowanec (2-2), Geoff Verallis (2-3), Drew Mahoney (4-1),
Chris Chorzepa (1-3), and Lucas Muntz (4-1).

Currently living at Northern Michigan University, enrolled at Marquette Senior High School, and participating in the USOEC program. Erin met Coach Powers at the 2005 NE Regional Cadet Freestyle tournament in R.I. Coach Powers extended an invitation to train at N.E.Elite for Jr. Nationals. Dan Rollett was kind enough to host Erin for July while training, and Erin competed with Team Ct., placing 7th. Coach Powers was extremely supportive, as Erin suffered a severe ankle sprain the week before coming to NE Elite to train, and his coaching and facility was key to Erin's success at Fargo. This year Erin competed again with Team Ct. at Fargo, coached by Stef Shaw, with Coach Powers matside. We feel honored to be a part of the NorthEast Elite family.
